According to Robert Englund, Freddy's look was based on Klaus Kinski's portrayal of Count Dracula in Nosferatu the Vampyre (1979) and some of the works of Lon Chaney, while he based Freddy's poise and gait on the "Cagney stance" originated by actor James Cagney. Freddy's characteristic of keeping his gloved arm lower than the other was incidental due to the knives being heavy to wear for Englund and forcing him to carry himself as such while playing the role.[24] Freddy's physical appearance has stayed largely consistent throughout the film series, although small changes were made in subsequent films. The temptation in making a game based around a horror icon is to make it multiplayer-centric, and have people confined to a certain area trying to escape. You can see why these IPs don't easily make for story-driven third-person game like, say, Resident Evil, because they are mostly solo killers (outside of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre where you're dealing with a whole family - a major inspiration for Resident Evil 7). The idea of Jason and Freddy Krueger having minions does not really fit their lore. Back then their inclusion was something developers could get away with because beat-em-ups were a popular genre and having minions or other enemy types was basically a necessity.
But in today's era of survival horror games, I would love to see original stories involving various horror icons be told in the narrative adventure style of a SuperMassive game (the guys behind Until Dawn and, more recently, The Quarry). Allow the writers to tell a story and allow us as the players to make our own decisions with the characters which, of course, leads to different outcomes (and different grisly deaths).
